Daylight saving time will take effect earlier in 2026 than in previous years. Here's when the time change will take effect.

Summer time will last until the last Sunday in October 2026, when we return to standard time by setting the clocks back one hour.

The period therefore covers approximately seven months, and coincides with the spring and summer seasons.

What changes when switching to summer time?

The time change has some immediate effects:

an extra hour of light in the evening

an hour less sleep the night before the change

possible slight fatigue in the first few days

reduced energy consumption thanks to less use of artificial lighting

Many people experience less discomfort in the days that follow, but usually the body quickly adapts to the new rhythm.

Why summer time exists

The aim of summer time is to make better use of natural light, reduce energy consumption and optimize operating hours during the brightest months of the year.

The debate about its abolition has been raised several times at European level, but for now the system is still in force.
